Fall '10 is Gonna be Fun! The Vikings will be entering their second full fall season of play, for Fall 2010. The program has already established its niche as a developmental, or minor league, program for the MCLA, Division I and Division II teams on the west coast. Lacrosse players may continue playing at DVC until they complete their transfer requirements to their choice universities, and still maintain 4 years of eligibility at the university level. This allows players at all levels to become bigger, stronger, faster and more mature and proficient with their "games," and better prepares them to "walk in" to the university or four year college teams and make an immediate impact. Three Fall '09 DVC players, Alex Starr, Gavin Cook and Laki Sotiropulos transferred to St. Mary's College in the Spring '10 and led St. Mary's to the West Coast Lacrosse League's (WCLL) Division II Championship! Eleven players have or will be transferring from our Fall '09 team, to such colleges and universities as San Jose State University, Southern Oregon University, Dominican University, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, University of Nevada, Reno, Columbia College (NY), and Lehigh University (PN). Many more will be transferring after next year and continuing playing lacrosse at the next level, as several have already been contacted by D-1 and D-2 coaches. DVC lacrosse staff have developed strong relationships with the coaching staffs of the Division I and II teams we play. After every game, these coaches meet with our players, discuss their lacrosse programs and their universities and invite questions. The coaches have frequently been surprised and impressed by our players' passion, intensity, and skill levels, with one Division I coach exclaiming, "I told my players that how you (the Vikings) played tonight is how lacrosse should be played." One thing is for sure about Fall '10, we won't "sneak up" on anybody. We are looking to "step up" the program another notch and continue to compete with passion and purpose. It will be fun for players and fans. (To subscribe to the DVC Lax Fans list, please email Terry Armstrong at tarmstro@dvc.edu ).
