We meet face-to-face only 6 times during this class. The meetings take place on Monday evenings, in room MA 241 on the DVC campus. The dates are:
The first meeting is an introduction to the class and orientation session; the other five meetings will have a 30 minute question/answer session followed by the 90 minute test. For the test you are allowed to consult your worked homework and up to two pages of notes.
Between each pair of meetings, there will be work assigned through WebCT, and there will be an online quiz. The quiz takes about an hour, and will be available for at least three days. Each quiz also has a practice version (which doesn not count for points).
In between the meetings, we will be interacting through WebCT which is a web-based class environment. You can read notes from me, send e-mail to me and to other students, read and post (please!) on the bulletin board, and keep up-to-date with the class (including homework assignments, practice quizzes, and web links that I find useful). Before you can use WebCT, though, you need a class ID number and password, which I will distribute at the first class meeting. If you cannot make this meeting we will catch up by e-mail. If I haven't heard from you by one week after the first meeting I will drop you!
There will be more detail on the Syllabus available through WebCT, but: the main components of the grade are the five tests, four quizzes, and the homework. I will give points for homework every week, at each test. There will also be a small component you can earn by participating in the class bulletin board.
