Introduction: Welcome to Introduction to Computer Software. This course is a
semester length lab course using the applications of Microsoft Office.
This course is specifically designed for those with some small amount of
computer and Internet experience. The student should be comfortable
with basic computer use including the keyboard, mouse, and Windows file
storage. Experience in the use of an Internet browser and email, including
attachments is strongly suggested.
Co requisite: COMSC 100 Introduction to Computers and Data Processing.
Description: After a required initial on campus
meeting this course will be delivered entirely online in weekly segments.
Each week will involve one assignment. The final week of the course
will include the Final (online) Quiz.
Weekly assignments
will be posted on the Assignment web page of the class site - I suggest you
print a copy. They will consist of two of the following elements:
2. A written description of a document ( file) to be created. Completed assigned files will be submitted via the course web site's Email/Submit icon. Please send your completed file as WebCT email attachment. Do NOT send the file as an email attachment to jbarnes@pacbell.net

All discussion postings should be placed in the Discussion Board icon
found on the home page of our class site. All posting should be in REPLY
to posted discussion topic (Threads).
You may expect an email or posted reply from me within 24 hours (except on Sunday).
Students will be encouraged to become acquainted through discussion board posted biographies, responses, email, and online chats (office hours).
General questions that
assist the entire class may be posted on the discussion under the FAQ's
thread.
A list of current activities
will be present on the sites home page. Any changes in posted assignments
or datelines will be sent to all students via email.
All assigned work will be returned graded with comments, within one week of submission. Students may check their standing in the class at any time on the My Grades icon.

Requirements: Students will need access to a personal computer with an Internet connection. If needed students may do their work and submit files from the DVC compute lab - table G if you are working on SNAP exercises.

Deadlines: Assignments are posted by noon on Thursday and are due by
midnight the following Wednesday
- Assignments will be accepted up to one week late at half credit. No assignment will be accepted more than one
week late. - unless -
FREEBEE (a magic word) is used - you may send this word along with
any one weeks assignment in any time during the semester for no late
charge. The final quiz will NOT be accepted late.
Cheating: This is an individual effort class. Students submitting duplicate files (copying or allowing someone to copy) is considered cheating. On the first occurrence all parties involved will receive a grade of zero on that assignment. A second occurrence will result in failing the course.
Dropping: Any student inactive on the class site for two weeks without contacting the instructor will be dropped.
Tutoring:
Free tutoring
services in most subjects are offered to students at DVC. You may drop in for
immediate
tutoring at most labs, but some require that you make an appointment. Check the
schedules posted on the DVC
website or outside the tutoring labs.
