Course Objectives:
· Command of the basic vocabulary of Computer Science and Information Systems

Possess an overview of
the computing system
· Perform basic computer programming procedures and programming logic
· Become familiar with the components of corporate Information Systems
· Comprehend information system development, capabilities, current and future applications, and societal impact
Co-requisite: CS 100L Introduction to Computer Software

class must be taken concurrently with COMSC 100L. If you drop, or get dropped
from COMSC 100L for any reason,
you will automatically be dropped from COMSC 100

Grading Policy: Grades will be assigned on points accrued during the class:
· 16 online chapter exercise sets @ 20 points each 320 points
· 32 online chapter student edition labs @ 5 points each 160 points
· 7 HTML / JavaScript assignments @ 60 points 420 points
· 1 midterm online exam 100 points
· 1 final online exam 200 points
Total 1200 points
Grading Scale:
1080↑= A 960 to 1079 = B 840 to 959 = C 720 to 839 = D 719↓= F
Deadlines:
All assigned work will be posted by noon
on a day set in that classes schedule.
Chapter exercises and
labs will be due the following one week later by midnight.
Chapter exercises and labs will be accepted up to one week late for half credit.
HTML/JavaScript
assignments will be accepted up to one week late for half credit.
The midterm and final will not be accepted late
under any circumstances.
All other work will have specific deadlines announced when
posted and shown on the class schedule.
Cheating:
Submitting identical or copied files will be considered cheating. Each
student must do his or her own work.
On the first
occurrence all parties
involved will receive a grade of zero. If there is a second occurrence, a
formal report
will be submitted and a
semester grade of F will be given.
Dropping: Any student inactive on the class site will for two weeks without contacting the instructor will be dropped..
Tutoring:
An open lab time in L148 is held Monday through Friday with a COMSC professor
present. Free tutoring
services in most subjects are offered to students at DVC. You may
drop in for immediate tutoring at most labs,
but
some require that you make an
appointment. Check the schedules posted on the DVC website or outside the
tutoring labs.
