Sports Medicine Program Internship Information

PETHE 286
Beginning Clinical Experiences in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training

Course Information Sheet

The beginning clinical experiences class is a two-unit internship class that will expose you to the practical aspects of athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation. It is a great opportunity for students interested in a career in athletic training. It is also appropriate for students interested in pursuing a career as a physical therapist, physician / surgeon, physician assistant and other health care professions. You gain valuable experience working with and learning how to treat injured athletes. Initially these experiences will occur at the Diablo Valley College Athletic Training Room, but during ensuing semesters you will also get to observe a variety of health care professionals and watch several surgeries.

While this course represents a tremendous opportunity (and should be fun and interesting at the same time), there is a significant investment in time and effort on your part. Unless you are seriously considering a career in health care, this class is not for you.

  • Complete an application form
  • Previous or concurrent enrollment in PETHE 284 (previous enrollment is recommended unless you have previous experience as a student athletic trainer in high school or another college)
