Michael Chisar MPT, ATC, SCS, CSCS

Michael is the program director and teaches the sports medicine, optimizing human performance and physical fitness techniques courses.  He has been at Diablo Valley College since 1994.

Michael is a certified athletic trainer, physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist.  He is also board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as a sports clinical specialist.  He completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic training in 1984 from California  State University, Fullerton and his Masters in Physical Therapy Degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia in 1994.

Michael was previously the assistant athletic trainer at St. Mary’s College in Moraga and has worked in a number of physical therapy settings.  He has worked with professional athletes from a variety of sports and has also taught sports medicine courses at St. Mary’s College as well as in the Doctor of Physical therapy Program at Samuel Merritt College.  Michael was a chief athletic trainer at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and has spent time working at the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.  He has also been published in several professional journals and made presentations at a number of professional symposia. He currently serves as the head athletic trainer for the University of California Ice Hockey Team and the San Francisco Dragons Professional Lacrosse team.

  Glen Barker MS, ATC.,  PTA, CSCS, ART  
Glen teaches the sports massage, optimizing human performance and sports medicine/fitness professions courses.  He has been an instructor at Diablo Valley College since 1992

Glen is a certified athletic trainer and physical therapy assistant as well as being a certified strength and conditioning specialist and certified in active release therapy. He completed his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Physical Education from the University of British Columbia in 1983 and his Master’s of Science Degree in Athletic Training from the University of Oregon in 1988.

Glen has been the athletic trainer for Team USA synchronized swimming and has worked with professional athletes from a variety of sports. In addition to his duties at Diablo Valley College Glen also works at Walnut Creek Sports Medicine where he treats patients with a specialized form of therapy called active release technique. He is the head athletic trainer and sports medicine instructor at Northgate High School. Glen also teaches in the graduate sport psychology program at John F. Kennedy in Pleasant Hill and serves as an athletic trainer for the San Francisco Dragons Professional Lacrosse Team.

  Cailin Mullins  
Cailin teaches the sports psychology and introduction to kinesiology courses, as well as teaching fitness activity courses and being the head women’s soccer coach at Diablo Valley College.  She holds two coaching certifications and a USSF “B” Coaching License and an NSCAA “Advanced National” Coaching Diploma.  She has been at Diablo Valley College since 2001.

She completed her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland-College Park in 1994, emphasizing study in biomechanics.  She earned a Master’s of Science degree in Kinesiology, in the area of Skill Acquisition, from California State University, Hayward in 2001. 

Prior to her tenure at DVC, Mullins was the assistant women’s soccer coach at Stanford University for six seasons, and a student assistant coach at Maryland for one season. She has also coached several youth club soccer teams during her coaching career in both Maryland and the Bay Area.

  Shelly Pierson MS, CPT
Shelly teaches the professional aspects of personal training and the professional aspects of group fitness instruction courses, as well as various fitness activity courses.  She has been an instructor at Diablo Valley College since 1998.

Shelly is a certified as a personal trainer by AFAA and NASM. She completed her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Athletic Training from California State Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo in 1993 and her Master’s of Science Degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Hayward in 1998.

Shelly worked for 6 years as a high school biology teacher and head cross-country and track coach. She has worked within the fitness industry as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor for over 20 years. Shelly was an All-American collegiate runner and still competes competitively for Team New Balance. She owns her own personal training business in Walnut Creek called CEI Fitness.

  Wendy Weber, MA, ATC, CSCS  
Wendy Weber teaches the first aid/CPR and various fitness activity courses.  She has been an instructor at Diablo Valley College since 2000.

Wendy is a certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Exercise Physiology in 1990 and a Master’s of Arts Degree in Sports Medicine in 1993 from California State University, Long Beach.

In addition to her academic responsibilities, Wendy has been the head athletic trainer at Diablo Valley College since 2001. Prior to starting at DVC she spent a number of years working in physical therapy clinics and high schools in southern and northern California. She has also worked with U. S. national and international athletes in volleyball, softball and men’s water polo.
