Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle District No.1

The United States Supreme Court will hear an important case in December, 2006 concerning the right of school boards to use race as one factor among many in deciding where to assign K-12 students for the purpose of creating racially integrated schools. One of the many amicus curae briefs that were submitted in this case was authored by a group of social scientists and lawyers who want to show how the concept of structured racism can be used to fashion anti-discrimination civil rights remedies. The group is identified in this brief as the Structural Equity Caucus. This brief, which breaks new sociological and legal ground, can be accessed at the U.S. Supreme Court website.
