The Calculus Field Trips  Project (CFT) at Diablo Valley College invites you to partner with us to show our undergraduates the ubiquitous power of mathematics in every day life and its societal impact.

Our aim is to bridge academia and industry, help our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students form a better vision and purpose for their academic studies, and motivate them to pursue internships and careers in the STEM  fields.

We are actively seeking community partners to host field trips at their organizations.  Typically, a class of 20-25 students and their instructor visit private industries, research labs, or federal or state organizations for a one hour presentation from a scientist or engineer on how Calculus is relevant in their work.  Alternatively, speakers give presentations at the DVC campus or deliver content in web conference format.   After the field trip, the class works on a follow-up project often based on data provided by the presenter.

If your organization would like to host a field trip, or if you are a Calculus instructor at a California Community College interested in a field trip for your class , please contact one of the project’s principal investigators.
